October always seems to bring in fall with a lot of busyness and activities, and this year is no different. This past weekend alone was chock full of activities.
Friday evening we met our LifeGroup at a park to carve pumpkins. The dads mostly carved, at least in my case, but the kids enjoyed helping too, although they all took off for the playground towards the end.
My kids had very different reactions to cleaning out the insides of the pumpkin.
Aidan actually said, "This is
so gross." It was hilarious.
And here is Quinn's face after pulling out a handful of the goopy stuff.
Spiderman. I've clearly lost my influence in the pumpkin carving templates over the past couple of years.
Saturday morning, Aidan had soccer pictures followed immediately by a soccer game. Then we headed out to the State Fair of Texas. The day after Big Tex caught on fire. I had to explain to Aidan why Big Tex wasn't going to be at the fair this year, and it was hysterical listening to him tell Josh what happened and then reassure his Daddy that it's ok because Big Tex will be back next year.
I think we'll try to come on a week day next year when it's hopefully not so crowded. The past two years we've come on the weekend, and the animals in the petting zoo really won't eat because they are just not hungry with so many people clamoring to feed them.
We did get an emu to eat from us though. Greedy little fellow.
Alpaca. He didn't come anywhere near the food despite Aidan's best efforts.
Aidan was chosen to be a lion in the Backyard Circus show. He was so excited.
As we were leaving, we ran into 3 Star Wars characters passing out flyers and posing for pictures. Aidan was thrilled. The flyers stated that in Star Wars there is clearly a good and evil side, but in life, it's not always quite so clear and that's why we need God. If anyone had questions they were free to talk with the characters. I thought this was a creative way to share Christ with others.
On Sunday, we took it easy and relaxed at home. The best thing to do after a couple of busy days.
October isn't over yet, and we have more events penciled into our calendar so more posts are coming soon!
