This past Saturday, we threw Aidan an Angry Birds birthday party. This kid has been obsessed with Angry Birds for awhile now, and has been asking for an Angry Birds cake since August. While it's a popular game, Angry Birds merchandise is just now beginning to appear in the stores, so finding party supplies wasn't exactly an easy ordeal. I ended up making most of it myself.
For his cake, I made a basic sheet cake and iced it in green to look like grass, and I used Keebler Fudge Stick cookies to make the pig tower. I read several tutorials online on how to make the birds and pigs out of fondant or gum paste, but decided to pass on it. Instead, I used these toy figurines that Aidan received for Christmas in his stocking. Remember how I said Aidan has been requesting this since August? Receiving those for Christmas was all part of the birthday plan.
Quinn received these blocks for Christmas from Grandma and Grandpa, so we used them to build a pig tower for one of the games. (I'll admit now that one of the reasons these particular blocks made it on Quinn's Christmas list was for this particular birthday party game. Remember that August thing?) If you look closely at this picture you can see square pigs sitting on the blocks. I found the template for those online, printed them on cardstock, cut them out, folded them, and taped them together.
Each child picked out a small plush Angry Bird to throw at the tower for this game. They then got to take their bird home as a party favor.
Luke and Greyson waiting their turn in line.
Next, we went outside for the pinata. Aidan has been asking for a pinata since Josh's birthday in March. Since August, he's wanted an Angry Bird pinata. They cannot be found in stores. I made this one using a balloon, paper mache, and paint.
Then is was time for cake.
Quinn made a new friend during the cake eating. :)
Aidan, I hope you enjoyed your party. I had fun putting it together for you. You are a special boy and I love to treat you as such on your birthday. I love you always!
